WHAT IS A MEDICARE EPC PLAN?
EPC stands for Enhanced Primary Care, and it’s a referral system that allows patients to see specialists without having to pay the full fee.
Instead, the Australian Government subsidises a portion of the cost, making it more affordable for everyone involved.
To be eligible for a Medicare EPC referral, your GP will need to assess your needs and determine that you would benefit from seeing a specialist, such as an exercise physiologist. If they believe you would indeed benefit from this, they’ll write out a referral and give it to you. You’ll then take this referral to the specialist, who can bulk bill Medicare for the consultation.
WHAT QUALIFIES AS A CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITION?
According to the Department of Health, a chronic condition is one that has been or is likely to be around for six months or longer. E.g. Having osteopenia or osteoporosis. Your GP is able to determine whether you qualify for a care plan.
Here at Mend, our aim is to help the community so rather than charging a payment gap we will bulk-bill your sessions.
After that, you will have the knowledge and skills required to begin in our more affordable small-group classes.
